Hello!

My name is Laura – welcome to my TrueBlueHue artist website! I am thrilled you stopped by and hope you enjoy browsing through my gallery of paintings and related products.

My story is that I was raised in an Air Force family, moving every two years or so from state to state (throw in a three-year stay in Spain!). I never enjoyed moving, leaving friends behind, starting over at new schools, and never feeling connected to any location. My family moved to Virginia when I was 15, and I’ve lived here ever since. Now, looking back, I see the positive experiences associated with everywhere I’ve lived and people I’ve met, and thanks to social media, I am fortunate to have re-connected with many childhood friends. I graduated from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!), and then got a graduate degree from The American University. I spent my career managing science and technology projects and policy, and mastering business processes to help small companies succeed in their missions. After over 30 years of this work, I retired so I could spend more time with my kids as they maneuvered through the ups and downs of middle and high school. Best decision ever!

I’ve always looked for ways to balance my all-business side with creative outlets. I love reading, writing, music, and art. I started painting after retirement, focusing on old houses, barns, pets, and flowers. And then I discovered my passion for painting using only palette knives. I still focus on nature – landscapes and flowers – as well as barns and houses in fields and in the woods. I use acrylic paints, usually bright colors for flowers and multiple layers to add rich texture and dimension.

As friends and family asked me to paint for them, I decided to apply for a juried art show to see if I could participate in an upcoming festival. I was accepted and have been applying to two or three a year ever since! Each art show, I’m commissioned to do new paintings, and also asked whether I have a website. I’m finally creating a website, and hope to connect to more people using this avenue.

I believe my paintings are fun and creative and colorful. I believe they can be conversation starters and provide light and joy to any room. And, my primary goal for painting and creating this website is that it fills me with endless gratitude to know that something I created in my home studio will end up in your home. I love connecting to people through art. And that is my story.
